Smokestack (the name inspired by a Howlin' Wolf song and the Dogpatch neighborhood's industrial history) is dedicated to wood-fired cookery, with a bar program featuring Magnolia beers on tap and a spirit and cocktail menu emphasizing American whiskeys. Our BBQ is unabashedly San Francisco even as it draws from regional BBQ from throughout the American South and the ubiquitous traditions of smoking meat over fire around the world. Most importantly, it brings our 20-year Magnolia food vision over from the Haight by serving only all natural, sustainably raised meat.

Beer

Magnolia beer has been brewed in 7-barrel batches at our original Haight Ashbury location since 1997. In 2013 we built a new 30-barrel brewery in Dogpatch. The new brewery is our opposite land after years of brewing in the Haight: high ceilings, large tanks, a centrifuge, new lab equipment and a forklift (possibly the best part). Nonetheless, we do everything the same over here, not least being indulging our love for bold, flavorful base malts like floor-malted Maris Otter and Weyermann Pils. At the bar, you'll find a mix of beers made at both locations.

Spirits (and cocktails!)

The say it takes a lot of good beer to make great wine. Could it be true that it takes a lot of good whiskey to make great beer? We aim to find out. Smokestack marries some of our favorite things: Beer, BBQ and Bourbon (and other whiskey, and tequila, and mezcal...). We direct our obsessions toward our spirit program with the same intensity as we do beer and food, delivering an extensive spirit menu, an ambitious cocktail program and big ice. Yes, big ice (clear, too).
